The 2025 Graduation Ceremony of Pittsburgh Chinese School (PCS) was held on the afternoon of May 11 at the auditorium of Taylor Allderdice High School. The event brought together students, parents, teachers, and board members to celebrate the end of a successful academic year and to witness the proud moment of graduation.
The ceremony began with warm opening remarks delivered by student hosts—all of whom were graduates—demonstrating their confidence and growth. A cheerful rhythmic gymnastics performance, “Circle Dance”, kicked off the performances, followed by an adorable group from the CSL-1 class singing “If You're Happy,” bringing joyful energy to the occasion. PCS Principal then delivered a heartfelt speech, encouraging students to continue nurturing their passion for learning Chinese and their love for Chinese culture as they embark on the next stage of life.
During the diploma presentation segment, seven graduates took the stage one by one to receive their certificates amid continuous applause. The school also honored three Outstanding Graduates and awarded two recipients of the Chinese Culture Scholarship in recognition of their academic excellence and cultural commitment. The graduation speech by the student representative was deeply moving, as it reflected on personal growth, expressed gratitude to teachers, and looked forward to the future with hope and determination—touching the hearts of everyone present.
The ceremony featured a variety of colorful and engaging performances, including music, dance, instrumental pieces, poetry recitations, and martial arts. Highlights included the ethnic dance “Pomegranate Blossom,” poetry recitations “Full Moon Over the Western Chamber” and “Spring Rain,” a Tang poetry medley, and a pipa ensemble performance of “Awakening of Insects”. Among them, the skit “How Many in Your Family?” stood out for its humorous delivery and natural acting, vividly showcasing the richness and charm of the Chinese language, and evoking waves of laughter and applause from the audience. The solo performance of “Believer” showcased impressive vocal strength and control. As the singer took the stage, children in the audience joined in softly, clapping along to the rhythm. The entire auditorium was soon transformed into a joyful sea of music, creating a heartfelt and uplifting atmosphere.
Adult students also delivered outstanding performances, including the fun song “Six Tigers,” a guzheng ensemble piece “Cloud Palace Tune + Liuyang River,” and the Latin dance “Rumba + Cha-Cha,” reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of learners across all age groups.
The ceremony also included the presentation of several awards, recognizing outstanding participants in the school’s storytelling contest, speech competition, international Chinese essay contest, Chinese Culture Scholarship, and Community Service Award. In addition, the school honored senior faculty members for their long-term dedication and extended heartfelt thanks to long-serving volunteers and outgoing board members. The Board Chair then delivered a brief yet sincere speech and formally introduced the new board leadership—signifying a renewed commitment to the mission and continued growth of PCS.
More than just a farewell, this graduation ceremony was a heartfelt celebration of language, culture, and the arts. It marked a memorable conclusion to the students’ journey in Chinese learning. We wish all graduates a bright and promising future and extend warm wishes to the entire school community for a happy and fulfilling summer!
