Pittsburgh Chinese School Shines at 2025 Dragon Boat Festival, Cultural Booth Draws Community Attention

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the annual Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival took place at the scenic North Park Lake. As a major cultural event in the region, this year’s festival centered around traditional dragon boat racing while incorporating multicultural showcases, attracting a large number of local residents and visitors.

As part of the celebration, the Pittsburgh Chinese School set up a booth themed around Chinese culture, featuring a variety of traditional Chinese crafts and ornaments for display and sale. The booth not only conveyed the beauty of Chinese traditions to the community but also served as an opportunity to share the school’s educational mission and enrollment information.

Items on display included Peking opera mask ornaments, Sichuan opera face-changing keychains, Chinese knots, and colorful handmade bracelets. With their intricate designs and strong cultural flavor, the items caught the attention of many passersby who stopped to admire and purchase them.

One American visitor who had previously traveled to Chengdu, China, stopped by the booth and engaged enthusiastically with volunteers. He fondly recalled watching a face-changing performance in Sichuan, saying, “It was amazing—he changed faces in an instant!”

Another memorable visitor was a three-year-old girl, who carefully picked out a brightly colored bracelet and sweetly chose an additional charm for her mother. “Mommy should have one too, so we can wear the same!” she said. Her innocent words and thoughtful gesture warmed the hearts of everyone nearby. A volunteer remarked, “Respect for elders and care for the young are cherished virtues in Chinese culture. Seeing such warmth in this setting is truly meaningful.”

This event not only showcased the richness of Chinese cultural heritage but also helped strengthen the Pittsburgh Chinese School’s presence within the local community. Many parents expressed interest in enrolling their children in Chinese classes and inquired about the school’s curriculum and registration process on the spot.
