On February 22, 2026, the Pittsburgh Chinese School invited Dr. Po-Shen Loh to deliver a special lecture for parents titled “AI, Math, Education and the Future of Humanity.” Dr. Loh is a professor of mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University, an entrepreneur, and a former head coach of the USA International Mathematical Olympiad Team. The lecture focused on how family education should evolve in response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence. The event attracted many parents, and the atmosphere was lively with active participation and thoughtful discussion.

Dr. Loh began by sharing his observations and reflections on the development of artificial intelligence. He pointed out that AI technology is profoundly reshaping social structures and the landscape of talent demand. Traditional educational models centered on knowledge accumulation and skill training are undergoing an unprecedented transformation. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly capable of efficiently handling repetitive and rule-based tasks, future society will place greater value on individuals who possess empathy, leadership, and strong communication and collaboration skills.

Drawing from his own experiences as a parent, Dr. Loh noted that while accompanying his children through their growth, he has increasingly realized that rather than focusing solely on grades and rankings, it is more important to cultivate children’s curiosity and passion for learning, as well as their sense of social responsibility. He emphasized that the true purpose of education should not be limited to achieving “personal first place,” but rather to nurturing individuals who care about others and can contribute positively to society.

When discussing academic learning, Dr. Loh also highlighted the enduring importance of mathematical thinking in the future. He explained that mathematics is not merely a subject but a rigorous and profound way of thinking. Strong logical reasoning and abstract thinking skills can help children maintain clear judgment and rational thinking in a rapidly changing technological world, thereby giving them a lasting competitive advantage.

This lecture provided parents of the Pittsburgh Chinese School with an opportunity to reflect on what future society will require and how families can better prepare the next generation in the era of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence. Dr. Loh’s insights, drawn from both his professional expertise and personal experience, offered parents new perspectives while also fostering educational dialogue and collaboration within the community.

At the conclusion of the lecture, members of the Pittsburgh Chinese School Board presented Dr. Loh with a commemorative gift and a bouquet of flowers and took a group photo with him to express their sincere appreciation for his inspiring talk.
